day 28 of 50 Limping Along into Sabbath

Jacqueline: (plastic doll's leg)
bury it, hide it, paper over it, try to ignore it,
but don't fool yourself - we walk this fault line every damn day.

Amichai: Break a leg, they say, before it's show time. I once knew what it meant but now I don't.
So here it is, this broken limb, torn from its socket, slender and supple and useless and containing, still, the scream that is the soundtrack of the wrenching apart from the body.

The Sabbath Queen is back tonight, to caress the wounded, put a cover on the bread, turn on the mood lighting of candles, smell the fresh flowers, take a sip of wine. Does it help? Does it any of it help to silence the screaming of our pain and wounds, inner or outer, torn limbs or rages or fears and whimpers, alone in the dark?

The show must go on, sometimes when we're limping. Sometimes in our grief.

28. Malchut of Netzach. The royal, regal, majestic simplicity of taking one step at a time, even on one foot, through the infinite corridors of life, where sometimes howls are heard and limping dolls stare back at you and smile, all hopeful. shabbat shalom.
