Amichai: One of my favorite books as a child, in Hebrew, was 'The Voyage to the Island Maybe", about a bunch of broken toys traveling together to help repair one of the broken dolls. Along the way they discover courage and compassion and the power of transformation. Not unlike Toy Story or the Wizard of Oz, this fable by Miriam Yalan Shtekelis, published in 1952, it's a story that fuels the fires of hope and belief that repair is possible, and that courage helps the healing happen. Everyone: Even gods, and super heros, like this fragment of a once loved toy, sometimes need, and deserve a makeover or a second chance.

Today was one of those days when courage and the commitment to change, at a price and not without a battle, prevailed. The decision by the Masorti Movement in Israel to ordain Gay and Lesbian rabbis is a vote of confidence in the human dignity of each and every one of us. It's also a bold affirmation of the abilities of law to evolve, and for social norms to adapt and alter cherished traditions. Something was broken, they said, and it has to be fixed. Laws, too, civic or religious, sometimes need, and deserve, a repair.

Day 13 on the journey of gathering the broken fragments. Yesod of Gevura: The Foundation of Courage, the deeply rooted firmly grounded pillar that supports the structure of our lives. Yesod is Eros, Muscle: source of the creative life force, holding up two muscular arms ready for battle, ready for hugs.
